Joey Prusak has proven he has a great work ethic: the 19-year-old Dairy Queen restaurant manager has risen up the ranks since he started at the Hopkins, Minnesota store when he was just 13. In a role like that, you get to know your regular customers, and Prusak wasn’t about to let one get robbed when he witnessed some shady business go down in his store one day.
It happened when a customer who Prusak had seen before inadvertently dropped a $20 bill on the ground while waiting in line at the restaurant. While not totally blind, the gentleman is visually impaired, and didn’t seem to notice when the bill fell from his pocket. But another customer sure did, and leaned right over and picked it up.
Naturally, Prusak expected the customer to return the bill to the sight-challenged man, but instead, he saw her pocket the money herself. And when the young restaurateur called her on the theft, she insisted the money was hers.
Rather than cause a scene, he simply asked her to leave the store. But it was what Joey did next that was amazing.
He reached into his own wallet and took out a $20 bill and gave it to the visually impaired man. And he expected no fame, nor internet praise, for his actions either, because he never told a soul about it. But a customer who had witnessed what went down wrote a long letter to the franchise owner about it, and she in turn shared it on her Facebook page, being naturally very proud of the young man she’d employed for so long.
From there, the letter spread like wildfire across the internet, and next thing you know, Joey had made back the $20 many times over from grateful and impressed customers who praised him for his actions. And while the young man can no doubt use the money, he says it was never about getting recognized, or getting paid back.
“I didn’t expect anything, nor did I frankly want anything from this,” Prusak told TV station Fox9. “Because it wasn’t anything that I wouldn’t have done on any other day.”
We hope some young ladies are paying attention, because this guy is great husband and father material: take note.
