Abusive relationships don’t just leave physical stars, the emotional wounds left behind can take years to heal. When a woman lives with an abusive man, leaving the situation can be extremely stressful. They need to get the children, pack their belongings, find a new home, and pay for the move. That alone can stop people from escaping their tormentors.
One California-based moving company has stepped in to help victims of domestic violence. Meathead Movers offers abuse survivors a move completely free of charge!
Meathead Movers was founded in 1997 by student athletes, recently partnered with domestic violence-prevention nonprofit Good Shepherd to help those fleeing abusive situations move for free.
“Meathead Movers will work directly with the nonprofit to identify the abusive situations and provide moving services at no cost,” a spokeswoman says. “Not only do these services help the victims of domestic abuse but they directly impact Meathead employees — consisting of predominantly young men who believe that real men don’t hit women, real men help those in need.”
“It’s unimaginable to think about a woman and her children trying to pack up all their belongings and flee before the abuser returns home,” CEO Aaron Steed said.
The Meathead Movers consist of a group of young men who believe that “real men don’t hit women, real men help those in need.”
The amazing company’s mission statement reades: “Meathead Movers is revolutionizing the moving industry one relationship at a time. We are accomplishing this by providing the first client and employee focused moving service. Our founding principle is to support student athletes working their way through college in pursuit of their own American dream, and that will never change. We work hard, have fun, and serve our community by providing premium moving services as well as assisting victims of domestic violence with a fresh start in life.”
In their company philosophy, they also state, “Despite the fact that Meathead Movers is a for-profit business, we feel we are obligated to utilize our talents to help those who need us most. With the alliance of the local women shelters in each local operating service area, we pledge at Meathead Movers to move women out their domestic violence situation for free.”
