Here’s What Your Face Can Reveal About Your Health

Traditional Eastern medicine says that our face perfectly reflects our health and lifestyle. Here is a guide for all of us to find out if there is something our face is trying to say.

1. Thin and gaunt face

Indicates that you probably went too far with your exercising or diet. If you exercise too much you prevent your facial skin from getting the necessary amount of oxygen.  Your cheekbone area is affected the most. Stick to a healthy diet so that your face looks young and fresh.

2. Swollen face

If  your face is swollen, it means you may need to work out a little more or decrease your stress level and alcohol consumption. These three factors negatively affect the process of collagen production.

To make your face look smoother and younger, perform some physical activity on a regular basis and decrease your intake of alcoholic beverages.

3. Wrinkles

If you like spending lots of time in the sun, you should know that ultraviolet exposure is one of the main causes of early wrinkling. The skin around your eyes is much thinner and more delicate and can be easily damaged by the sun. Protect your face by applying sunscreen even if the day is cloudy.

4. Dry skin

A poor diet is probably the main reason why your face is dry and sensitive. Poor nutrition results in the deficiency of those important vitamins and minerals needed for skin elasticity. Keep in mind that anti-aging creams are totally useless if you don’t take care of your skin from the inside.  It’s important to consume fruits and vegetables in a variety of colors, and you’ll notice visible results on your skin.

5. Skin redness

Drinking too much coffee can cause irritated and red skin because caffeine dehydrates the cells, and causes inflammation and dryness. If you work at night and sleep during the day, you may lack vitamin D because you don’t expose your skin to the sun regularly. Cut down on your caffeine consumption, or replace coffee with another tasty drink. To get enough vitamin D, try to sunbathe every day — but don’t forget to use sunscreen.

6. Yellow skin

If you see that your skin tone become yellow, you may have liver problems or anemia. It’s important that you consult a specialist as soon as possible if you notice such changes on your skin.

7. Pale skin

If your face becomes paler than usual, it could be a sign of iron deficiency. Try to increase your consumption of iron-rich foods, such as meat and legumes. Don’t forget about vitamin C, as it facilitates iron absorption in your body.

8. Dark circles under your eyes

If you suffer from insomnia and have an unhealthy diet, you probably have dark circles under your eyes. Tobacco and alcohol consumption also make a negative contribution to puffy eyes. You should get approximately 8 hours of sleep, and get rid of your bad habits. Exercise and a well-balanced diet will do wonders for tired skin.

9. Acne

If your diet is rich in fats and sugars, it may be the reason for your acne problem. Sometimes hormonal changes are to blame. Always keep your face clean and detoxify your skin from the inside by eating healthy food.

10. Laughter lines and wrinkles around your mouth

If you have deep wrinkles around your mouth, you obviously love smiling a lot. But while smiling is good for you, you should also know that those wrinkles signal a vitamin B deficiency. Cracked lips are usually caused by a lack of vitamin C. A healthy diet rich in green vegetables, oranges, and bell peppers can positively change the situation around your lips.
