Customer Left An Emotional Note That Brought Waitress To Tears

Heather Schelsteder is a waitress at a Cheddar’s restaurant in Baytown, Texas. On New Year’s Eve 2015, she began chatting with a woman she was serving.  The woman was a criminal psychologist, and she was a little bit anxious about having to talk with folks who were suffering from PTSD.

Schelsteder tried to comfort her by telling her about a family member of her own who went to war. It turned out, Schelsteder’s grandmother had also recently passed away, and she shared that information with the woman as well. “We both started getting teary-eyed, and then we’re both like trying to blink it away, and then it just kind of went from there,” Schelsteder said in the article. “We just kept talking until the next table came in and she got up and left.”

After the woman left, the waitress went to collect the bill, and she couldn’t believe what she found. There was a note on the receipt that read, “Have an amazing New Year! It gets easier.” Next to that was a tip for $100 for a meal that had cost only $27.55.

That tip made Schelsteder’s day. “It made me feel so special and important, like she understood because she also left a note that things will get better, because she knew the heart of losing someone,” Schelsteder said.
