Tremaine wasn’t the only well-known figure to condemn Ye. Gigi Hadid, Hailey Bieber, Luka Sabbat, Jaden Smith, and more celebrities sent messages expressing their support for Gabriella and condemning Ye for his remarks.
Ye, who is by nature a fighter and emphasized the significance of his “White Lives Matter” shirt, stood his ground.
Moreover, Ye revealed in an interview with the French media outlet Clique TV that he donned the shirt in response to the increase in white people he had noticed wearing “Black Lives Matter” shirts during the past few years. According to him, he made the shirt in reaction to those who were telling him how important his life was and to let them know that their lives were also significant.
Ye also discussed the “White Lives Matter” shirt in text chats with his father, Ray West, in a since-deleted post. Ray texted Ye about the shirt and said, “I thought it was very funny.” When the artist asked his father, “What did you like about it,” Ray said, “That a Black Man was declaring the obvious,” as a response.
To put things in perspective, Ye’s father was a renowned Black power political group created in the 1960s known as the Black Panthers.
Ye Agreed to an Interview With Tucker Carlson as Well
Ye emphasized the same ideas in his interview with Tucker Carlson on October 6 by adding more details. “I thought the shirt was a funny shirt,” he remarked. “I thought that the idea of me wearing it was funny.”
He also discussed the commotion he caused in the past by wearing a “Make America Great Again” cap during the Trump administration.
