A Florida TikTok star caused a 100mph police chase and then told officers that because of his wealth, youth and fame he could not be held accountable for his actions.
18-year old Damaury Mikula of Pasco, Florida amassed over four million followers on TikTok. He has posted content featuring his $60K Dodge Challenger, a vehicle that can go up to 141mph. The TikTok star was recorded being chased in that car by Pasco County Police on Friday. The chase began when Mikula deliberately “burned out” the car while at a stop sign next to an officer.
Troopers later arrested him in front of his home and he did not post the video on TikTok, but the officers were able to share their own dashcam footage as well.
With his tires smoking, Mikula had initially started the chase after running a red light and doing an unusual burnout move in front of a patrol car. After being caught running the red light, The officer attempted to signal Mikula, but he did not stop. As police continued their pursuit, the suspect accelerated and pulled over into a nearby residential neighborhood.
The officers arrested the runaway driver, Mikula, after he was being identified. They arrived at his home where he continued to brag about all that money he made during this time while being read his Miranda rights by police. Mikula told the trooper he was a social media vlogger and makes around $400,000 to $450,000 a year.
Trooper W. Kelly of the Florida Highway Patrol told WFLA said, ‘Mr. Mikula advised his state of mind was that he is young, makes a lot of money, and has a fast car and he can do whatever he wants. Mr. Mikula admitted that was a foolish way of thinking and not a good way to live. Mr. Mikula advised he wanted to do something fun for three seconds, and it cost him.’
Mikula also said that he planned on getting onto the expressway, but then realized it could get him into even more trouble. According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Mikula told police that his car was parked in the garage and gave permission for it to be towed.
Mikula’s negligence cost him to be charged with eluding police with disregard of safety to persons or property, reckless driving, and racing on a highway. On Saturday, they let him out on bond.
