Mother Reads Son’s Homework Assignment, Is Furious About What Teacher Is Asking Him To Describe

When a California mother refused to let her son finish his homework on Islam, she posted the photo on a local tv station’s Facebook page and received a lot of pushback from the community. Fox 5 reports Tara Cali of Bakersfield uploaded the photo below after her son was asked to name the 5 pillars of Islam, and given a barcode that he could scan on his phone to listen to an Islamic prayer.

The frustrated mother wrote to her son’s teacher: “My son will not be a part of this in any sort of way. This is bad teaching material. He will not partake. If you have a problem, with it call our lawyer”

Metro reports Cali also claimed the school didn’t teach lessons like that on Christianity – listing specific bible references.

But many in the community, and those who saw the viral photo didn’t share the Bakersfield mother’s belief that it was a bad lesson. Facebook user Lesley Harrison wrote, “I am a teacher and completely agree that this should be taught as a part of world history curriculum. And that QR code is an awesome, interactive idea. I actually love this assignment.”

Nick Miranda, also added: “How can we grow and work towards understanding if we won’t allow our children the opportunity to learn about other cultures in a world history class?”
