‘The Middle School and High School are on lockdown at this time,’ Jackson Local Schools said in a statement.

‘Students will be released to their parents in the near future.’

The district said all four elementary schools would remain closed on Tuesday.

A message on the school’s website said students would be released around 11 am.

Students were reportedly having their backpacks and lockers searched before they could be picked up by their parents.

Police said they would investigate how the student was able to get a gun inside the school.

Parents were waiting anxiously outside the school for their children to be evacuated.

Gina Larkins, whose daughter is in eighth grade, told News 5 she noticed the police activity on her way to drop her other daughter at the elementary school.

‘I received a phone call from the superintendent that the middle school and high school was on lockdown and all the elementary schools would be closed. I just pulled in waiting to hear further information,’ she said.

‘I just want to get my daughter and hug her and hold her. I thought it would never happen here but obviously, that is not the case.’

Another father Don Casey said he had put a piece of armor in his eighth-grade son’s backpack over the weekend as a precaution.

Police said the heavily emergency response was a precaution.
