Popeyes Reveals Some Sad News About Their New Chicken Sandwich

Thanks to a social media frenzy fueled by Black Twitter, Popeyes is officially sold out of their infamous chicken sandwiches and are temporarily removing the item from their menu.

On Tuesday, the Louisiana fast-food chain released a statement blaming the “extraordinary demand” for their chain selling out of the sandwiches in only two weeks. The sandwich debuted nationwide on August 12 and has yet to exit trending topics and the heated chicken sandwich war ever since.

By the end of this week, all Popeye’s restaurants will have depleted their inventory of the sandwich, and some are already out of stock. The company said that it “aggressively” forecasted demand to last through the end of September, but apparently, the public’s appetite outpaced even their most generous calculations.

But not everyone’s a winner in the sandwich war: some Popeye’s employees anonymously confessed to Business Insider about the damaging effects of the sandwich mayhem, including long hours, long lines, no breaks, and impatient consumers.

The popular demand for the Popeyes sandwich was so high customers waited in hour-long lines at some locations. Someone even tried re-selling the $3.99 priced treat on eBay for $7,000. Cleveland Cavalier baller Tristan Thompson made headlines for purchasing everyone in line with him a sandwich after a 30-minute wait.

But if you haven’t had a chance to stop by your neighborhood Popeye’s to experience all its spicy-deliciousness, no need to worry. The company is tirelessly working to return the sandwich to guests, for good.
