Waiter Denies Service To Man Who Refuses To Sit Near Special-Needs Child

Kim Castillo and her son Milo, went to Laurenzo’s restaurant in Houston, TX. They are regular customers there and were greeted warmly by the staff.

“We were sitting there and all of a sudden I noticed that the family across from us got up and moved to the back of the restaurant,” Kim said. “I thought, ‘I wonder if they’re moving because of us?’”

Garcia didn’t pay any attention to them, until he heard what the man said.

“I didn’t think much of it until I heard him say, ‘Special-needs children need to be special somewhere else,’” he said. Garcia could not believe his ears. “It was very disturbing. My personal feelings just took over and I told this man, ‘I’m sorry, I can’t serve you.’”

The rude man and his family couldn’t believe Garcia was refusing to serve them and quickly left. Kim was very grateful Garcia had stood up for her.

“What went through my mind was that I was just so impressed and felt so good that somebody would stand up for another human being,” she said.

Garcia’s actions were praised by customers and managers alike. It’s a clear case of the customer isn’t always right, especially when they bring their prejudices with them.

“It upset me because he’s a 5-year-old little boy. He’s an angel. He’s precious!” Garcia said.
