Winery Loses 30,000 Liters Of Prosecco Wine When A Tank Explodes

Sparkling wine lovers worldwide were devastated after footage emerged showing 30,000 liters of Prosecco going to waste when a fermentation tank exploded in Italy.

The tank burst and spilled over in Conegliano, Veneto, in the province of Treviso, due to being too full.

Video of the incident was posted on Facebook by the L’enoteca Zanardo Giussano winery and has reached over a million views.

The post has attracted thousands of comments from grieving Prosecco lovers, many of whom are from Britain – the world’s biggest consumers of the drink.

Lucy Addison wrote: ‘We need to pack up the rubber dinghies and long straws and find this place.’

Zoe Hall commented: ‘I’d be stood underneath with my mouth open and a bucket to catch it and take it home.’

Emily Sutton said: ‘This may explain why I heart Prosecco has gone up in price?! They lost half the stock?’

And George Tomkins replied: ‘My heart is broken... why wasn’t I there to help save the day?’

It is unclear whether the tank had been overfilled by staff or whether the lid of the tank developed a fault.

Fortunately for the wine-producing region, wineries in Veneto have experienced one of the best harvests on record.

Almost 600 million bottles are expected to be produced this year.

Despite Prosecco being a favorite in Britain, exports have fallen for the first time in a decade.

Exports of the Italian sparkling wine dropped by seven per cent in the first half of this year as drinkers increasingly opt for English fizz instead.
