According to authorities in Florida, a 10-year-old shoots neighbor who had fought with her mother on Memorial Day by shooting her in the head.
When a 41-year-old neighbor was fatally shot outside an apartment complex in Orlando on Monday night, a 31-year-old mother was taken into custody, along with her daughter.
At around 11:45 p.m., neighbors reported seeing Rodgers outside her apartment at Jernigan Gardens Apartments on Mercy Drive. According to WIFR, Isaac walked up to the woman and slapped her on Monday while he was allegedly drunk.
When Isaac slapped Rodgers in response, the two women began to fight. Police say Isaac gave her daughter a bag containing a gun at one point. Two rounds were fired by the 10-year-old when she pulled the loaded gun from her purse and fired it at Rodgers.
At Orlando Regional Medical Center, the victim was pronounced dead after being transported. In addition to manslaughter by culpable negligence, child neglect, contributing to the delinquency of a minor, and assault with a firearm, Isaac, the girl’s mother, has been arrested for her role in the death.
Isaac was still in custody on Wednesday, and no bail was set. She will appear in court at a later time. The 10-year-old girl has been released into the care of the Florida Department of Children and Families. Her identity has been withheld due to her age.
It will be up to the State Attorney’s Office to decide whether or not to press charges against the young woman, according to the police.
